Bickerstaff Trees is a family owned and operated Christmas tree farm located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. Frank and Ruth Bickerstaff own and manage our farm with a great deal of help from the farm's foreman, Felix Alvarez. Frank and Ruth's twin sons, Bracky and Barry, also help part time when their regular jobs allow the time to do so. We specialize in raising and providing quality Fraser Fir Christmas trees along with wreaths and roping (garland) made from fresh evergreen materials such as fraser fir, white pine, boxwood, hemlock, and galax leaves. Our farm's history began in 1978 when Frank decided to set a few trees on 25 acres of land in preparation for his upcoming retirement from Lowe's Hardware. The early years involved raising white pine trees on the small plot of land and selling a few hundred trees each year at Christmas time. (Oh the joys of more simple days!) After Frank retired in 1982, he decided that increasing the size of the farm would give him "a little something to do". We transitioned to raising fraser fir trees, as these trees became preferred by our customers. We also began to plant a lot more trees and to work a full time crew. In 1986, Ruth decided that it would be a good idea to add wreaths and roping to our product line as many of our customers were starting to request these items. So she started our wreath and roping barn where she has since spent many long hours in the weeks leading up to the Christmas season. Today, we average selling approximately 10,000 trees along with 5000 coils of roping and 7000 wreaths per year.
Although the size of our business has changed over the years, our way of doing business has not. We have built our business on providing quality products to our customers who are often churches, civic groups, or small garden centers owed by families like ours. Along with quality products comes quality service, which we define as doing everything we possibly can to meet our customers needs. This has often involved such tasks as sending our box truck out on the road with Frank or friends like Bob Lane and Bob Edwards at the wheel to make deliveries that couldn't get shipped any other way. Ruth, Felix, Linda Poole and Walt Green have worked very late hours in the barn completing wreath orders and arranging shipping. Our field crews have started loading trucks at midnight because the order just had to get there by the end of the next day. We have hauled wreath orders of less that $200 for distances of over 100 miles just to help a small retailer. And, Ruth's kitchen has been the location of many business meeting after bellies were first filled with home cooking.

"Before God created kingdoms and governments, He created the family. This was His first earthly institution, and it is one that is very dear to Him. In fact, He uses the analogy of a marriage to describe His relationship with the Church. God loves the family. More specifically, He loves your family." Barry Bickerstaff
